Box Score Farmington, Maine - In their final game of the regular season, Castleton settled for a draw with Maine-Farmington, tying the Beavers 1-1 on Sunday afternoon in Maine.
Both teams entered the match with identical 7-1-0 records within the NAC, with each squad having lost to undefeated Colby-Sawyer College. The game on Sunday was a battle for the second seed in the conference tournament.
In the first half, Farmington took the lead with a goal from Renee Dupre. The Beavers' midfielder Kayla Tuttle ripped a shot that Jessica Binkowski parried away, but Dupre was there to clean up the rebound to put the home team up 1-0 in the 22nd minute of play.
Castleton and Farmington had even opportunities in the half, with each team entering the break with three shots. In the second frame, Castleton pressed the ball forward, in need of a tying goal. The Spartans finally broke through in the 54th minute when leading scorer Mallory Costello finished off a contested ball in the middle of the box. The equalizer was Costello's 16th goal of the season.
The two sides continued to trade blows through the remainder of the regulation, but neither could crack the scoreboard as the tilt proceeded to extra time. In the overtime periods, Castleton outshot the Beavers 5-3, and earned a pair of corner kicks, but were unable to convert the game-winner. The 1-1 score held as each team settled for the draw.
Spartan goalie Jessica Binkowski finished the game with seven saves. Beth Lebel started the game in net for Farmington, making two saves without allowing a goal in the first half and was replaced by Amy Jones at halftime. Jones made five saves and allowed one goal over 65 minutes.
Castleton finishes their regular season with a record of 11-7-1, and both the Spartans and Maine-Farmington will each host NAC Quarterfinal games on Saturday, Nov. 2.
