CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team dropped its Little East Conference opener against West Conn at Dave Wolk Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:
The Wolves broke through in the 21
st minute when a foul in the box gave West Conn a penalty kick, which they converted to take a 1-0 lead.
Castleton's defense kept West Conn from extending its lead, while
Ella Hall made a pair of saves in the 36
th minute to slow the Wolves' momentum.
Two minutes into the second half,
Paige Cargill put a shot on goal but could not find the back of the net.
West Conn eventually doubled its lead when the Wolves sent a shot just over Hall in the 71
st minute.
Castleton continued to look for an opening late in the match.
Caitlin Flaherty had a good look in the 81
st minute up the sideline, but the Wolves' defense broke up the opportunity.
The Spartans created a pair of late chances as
Allison Galante sent a ball toward
Chloe Green, while
Sylvia Emmons connected with
Ila Rankin, but Castleton could not break through.
