Box Score  CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's soccer team advanced to its fourth straight North Atlantic Conference Championship with a 2-0 victory over Husson on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
The two-time defending conference champion Spartans controlled play from the onset and outshot the visiting Eagles 29-1 to improve to 14-4-1 on the season. Husson concludes its season with a 7-13-1 record overall.
Castleton now moves on to the NAC Championship for the fourth straight year, looking for the team's third consecutive championship on Saturday at a time still to be determined.
The Spartans pressured the Eagles early, but didn't score until their 14th shot of the half. Halie Roberge (Southington) had the ball on the near sidelines and sent a bouncing cross toward the net. Freshman Mallory Costello (Vernon, N.J.) charged the near post and put a foot on the ball to deflect it past the right shoulder of the goalie and into the far corner.
The Spartans added to their lead 16 minutes into the second half. Kelsey Garecau (St. Albans, Vt.) sent a cross into the middle of the box for Costello. She touched the ball back to Sarah Ethier (Portsmouth, R.I.), positioned just inside the near corner, and the senior blasted it into the far upper corner of the net.
