Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. - The Spartans got a score from senior Sarah Ethier (Portsmouth, R.I.) in the first half against a tough Husson squad to earn the 1-0 North Atlantic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon at Husson.
Castleton outshot the Eagles 22-2 in the contest, highlighted by a 10-0 margin in the first half. The win gives head coach Chris Chapdelaine his 100th career victory at Castleton. With a career record of 100-47-10, he is the fastest soccer coach, male or female, to reach the 100-win plateau. He also has the highest winning percentage (.669) of any active coach at Castleton with at least 30 career wins.
The Spartans got their only goal of the game just 19:34 into the contest. Ethier scored off a pass from classmate Kelsey Garceau (St. Albans, Vt.).
In the second half, Castleton outshot Husson 12-2, forcing the Eagles' Jessica Poulin to make eight saves. She finished with 11 saves on the evening.
Freshmen Kaleigh Newton (Morrisville, Vt.) played the entire 90 minutes without having to make a save in earning her sixth win of the season.
Castleton returns to action on Sunday when the team travels to face Maine Maritime at noon.
