MacDerment shines on Senior Day, Spartans defeat Lyndon State 26-3

CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior midfielder Craig MacDerment (Clifton Park, N.Y.) went a perfect 18-for-18 in faceoffs, scored one goal and dished out two assists to help Castleton to a 26-3 victory over Lyndon State College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium on Senior Day.

The Spartans improve to 9-6 overall and remain perfect in the NAC at 7-0. The Hornets fall to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the NAC.

MacDerment, Castleton's lone senior, was honored before the contest for his efforts and contributions towards the men's lacrosse program.

Nohea King (St. Albans, Vt.), Luke Titus (So. Burlington, Vt.) and Adam Groot (Canandaigua, N.Y.) led the Spartans offensively with a hat trick apiece. Sam Bailey (Hartford, Vt.), Alex Green (Braintree, Vt.), Phil Patterson (Essex, Vt.), Will Stuhler (Madison, N.J.), Marshall Dutton (Chittenden, Vt.), Brian McCarthy (Johnson, Vt.) and Jake Krants (Franklin Lake, N.J.) chipped in with two markers each. MacDerment, David Whitlock (Randolph, Vt.) and Owen Hartman (St. Albans, Vt.) added a goal apiece to round out the scoring. Bailey dished out a game-high four assists while Green handed out three helpers.

For Lyndon State, junior Ryan Brown (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) scored two markers while senior Chris Mansour (Mansfield, Mass.) scored one goal.

Stuhler opened up the scoring for Castleton at 13:51 of the first ripping a shot past Hornets' goaltender Matt Reynolds (New Fairfield, Conn.) for a 1-0 lead and his 11th marker of the season.

Brown answered for Lyndon State moments later (13:01) beating Castleton goaltender Dave DeGhetto (Clifton, N.J.) on an unassisted tally for his fourth of the season.

The Spartans responded with 18 unanswered goals, including 11 in the second, to put the game away.

King led the offensive outburst scoring his hat trick during that span while Green scored twice pushing his team-leading goals mark to 38 on the season.

The Hornets made it 19-2 early in the fourth as Mansour out-muscled his way to the net through a pair of Castleton defenders zipping a shot past the Spartans' backup goaltender Tom Manley (Londonderry, N.H.).

Brown notched his fifth goal of the season at 13:18 firing a shot behind Manley for a 19-3 deficit.

Castleton scored seven-straight goals, including MacDerment's second tally of the season on a beautiful feed from Bailey at 3:38, to close out the contest.

The Spartans close out the regular season on the road against SUNY-Cobleskill on Wednesday, April 27 at 4 pm.
