Salem State struck early, opening the game with a pair of goals in the first two minutes before Castleton responded with a strong stretch midway through the opening quarter. Goals from

Liam Evarts helped the Spartans take a brief lead, while Evarts added another late in the frame to keep Castleton within striking distance.
The Vikings answered with a late first-quarter surge and carried that momentum into the second, outscoring Castleton 4-0 in the period to take a 10-4 lead into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter for the Spartans, Salem State extended its advantage before Castleton found some late offense in the fourth. Metz,
Cole Bowditch, and Evarts each found the back of the net down the stretch, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Salem State secured the 16-8 victory.
