JOHNSON, Vt. – Castleton State College received three goals from three different players en route to its eighth-straight victory, defeating Johnson State College 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Minaert Field. The Badgers slip to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the NAC while the Spartans won for the 14th consecutive time in regular season NAC play, and are now 11-2 overall, 5-0 in the NAC.
Castleton struck quickly in this as Brynn Campbell (Clarendon, Vt./Mill River) sent a floating free kick to the front of the net where Hilary Cooke (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) put a right foot on it and re-directed the ball low and to the right past a diving Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples) exactly one minute into the match for 1-0 Spartan lead.
There the match would remain until the 20th minute when Cooke notched her second of the day off a rebound of a Megan Blongy (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) shot. McCullock made a fine diving save initially on the Blongy but the ball bounced to the feet of the unmarked Cooke as she made it 2-0.
Courtney Chadburn (North Clarendon, Vt./Mill River) would ice the match in the 61st minute when, from a very tough angle on towards the right end line, she lofted a shot over the head of McCullock and just inside the far post for the 3-0 score.
McCullock made nine saves in the loss while counterpart Ericka Davis (Cambridge, Vt./Lamoille) made seven stops to earn the shutout victory.
Johnson State will travel to Maine for a set of matches next weekend at Maine-Farmington and Thomas while Castleton will move on to play Plymouth State University at home on Wednesday, October 15.
