CASTLETON, Vt. – Maria Arnot (Milford, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner as the top-seed Castleton State College defeated fourth-seeded Johnson State College 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer semifinal action Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

With the win Castleton improves to 15-2-1 overall and advances to its second-straight NAC Championship game, where they will play host to four-time defending champion and third-seed  Husson University. Johnson State's season closes out at 9-7 overall.

Courtney Chadburn (North Clarendon, Vt.) broke a scoreless tie just five minutes and 13 seconds into the contest, converting a Brynn Campbell (North Clarendon, Vt.) assist into her 21st goal of the season. Campbell slipped a pass into the box and Chadburn was able to snipe it past the dive of Johnson State keeper Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt.).

Arnot corralled a loose ball at the top of the box during the 37th minute, and deposited the ball into the top-right corner of the goal for her second goal of the season, and a 2-0 Spartan lead.

Kathryn Johnson (Hyde Park, Vt.) sliced the lead in half, just over five minutes after the interval, notching her first goal of the season. Castleton failed to clear a Badger attack from the box and Johnson pounced on the loose ball, lofting a shot on net. Castleton goalie Ericka Davis (Cambridge, Vt.) made the save, but her momentum carried her into the goalmouth and over the line for the goal.

Arnot put the game on ice 30 minutes later, gathering a rebound and potting her third of the season. Chadburn played Castleton's 14th corner kick deep into the box and onto Megan Blongy's (Rutland, Vt.) head. Blongy's attempt was turned away by a Badger defender but the rebound was sent home by Arnot.

McCullock stopped eight shots in the loss, while Davis made two saves in the victory.

The rematch of the 2009 NAC Championship, in which Husson came away with a 3-1 win, will be held Saturday at a time to be determined.
