Castleton wins third straight, takes down Johnson State 16-3

Castleton, VT-Brett Quillia scored one goal and handed out six assists to lead Castleton State College to a 16-3 win over Johnson State in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse action. The senior captain has 21 assists through Castleton's first 10 games and piloted the Spartans to their third-straight win.

Castleton controlled play throughout, out-shooting the Badgers 46-21 en route to the win.

The Spartans (6-4 overall, 4-1 NAC) took a commanding 10-1 lead into halftime as Quillia and Phil Barry did much of the damage. Quillia scored the first Spartan goal wih 9:30 remaining in the first period on a Barry assist. Quillia returned the favor twice in the period as Barry finished with two goals and three assists.

Kegan Pettit scored Johnson State's lone first half goal off an Erik Tillberg assist. The Badgers played Castleton even in the third period at 2-2, as Tillberg and Billy Noyes each tallied.

In the end it was too much Castleton offense, however as the Spartans scored four unanswered in the fourth period to earn the win. Michael DelDotto followed Quillia and Barry in the scoring column with three goals. Jake Rick added two goals and two assists while Ian Scaglione chipped in two goals and one assist.

Andy Lane stopped 10 shots as Johnson State falls to 3-2 overall and in conference play and will take on Becker College on Saturday in Leicester, Massachusetts.

Michael Mamunes picked up the win for Castleton, stopping eight shots. The Spartans are on the road this weekend as they travel to Maine for a pair of contests. Saturday Castleton takes on Thomas College in a NAC tilt, and Sunday will travel to St. Joseph's (Me.) for a non-conference affair.
