Rutland, VT-The St. Anselm Hawks took advantage of two early Castleton penalties and never looked back as the Hawks downed the Spartans 9-0 in an ECAC East match-up. St. Anselm dominated on the offensive end, out-shooting the Spartans 48-5.
Kathleen Twomey led the way for St. Anselm by scoring twice and adding an assist. St. Anselm's leading scorer, Twomey was helped out by several other Hawks, including Bianca DeSantis who added two goals. St. Anselm converted on their first two power play opportunities in the first period and never allowed the Spartans in the game from that point on.
The Spartans used all three of their goalies in the game, with Vanessa Carter stopping 11 shots in the first period, Kalla Robb making 12 saves in the second, and Rachel Dunn stopping 16 shots in the third period. Jen Taylor made two saves in the first two periods and Allie DiRico stopped three shots in the final period for the Hawks.
Carter got the loss for the Spartans who fell to 5-17 and 2-15 in conference play. The Spartans return to the ice Friday night as they host Manhattanville at 7:00 pm. Taylor earned the victory for the Hawks as they improve to 20-2 overall and 16-1 in ECAC action. St Anselm hosts Bowdoin Tuesday for a 7:00 pm start.
