WATERVILLE, ME.- The Vermont State Castleton field hockey team played its second straight game of the weekend as it took on Thomas College on Sunday. The Spartans came away with a 3-1 victory.

How It Happened
It was a scoreless first quarter of play. Castleton led in shots on goal 2-1. The Spartans had two shots on goal in the second quarter but were stopped both times as they were scoreless at halftime.
Thomas had a couple of shots on frame that were turned away by Spartan goalkeeper
Izabella Cosden (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area HS).
Brooke Noble (Mississauga, Ontario/Clarkson Secondary School) also came away with a defensive save. The Spartans finally broke through as
Ava LaRoss (Westminster, Vt./Bellows Falls Union) scored at 37:25. Castleton scored again at 42:01 on
Mackenna Roberson's (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) goal which was assisted by
Peyton Richardson (Windsor, Vt./Windsor).
Thomas broke through for its first goal of the day at 48:48 to make it a 2-1 contest. The Spartans added an insurance goal with just over two minutes remaining as
Allison Friel (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area) scored.
By the Numbers
• Shots were even at 17. Castleton led in shots on goal 13-6
• Penalty corners favored the Terriers 15-3.
• The Spartans had goals from three different scorers; Friel, LaRoss, and Roberson

The Spartans return home to host Oneonta on Wednesday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
