CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team hosted Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference matchup, falling 4-1 to the Panthers.

How it Happened:
Castleton faced early pressure from Plymouth State, but the Spartans' defense came up with a key block in the seventh minute to contain the Panthers' offense. Â
The Spartans created its first strong opportunity in the ninth minute when
Emma Kirby got a shot off that was saved by the Plymouth State keeper, but the Panthers took it back the other way and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Plymouth State continued to control possession for most of the half adding to their lead with another goal in the 17
th minute.
Castleton continued to look for opportunities before
Sylvia Emmons put a shot on goal in the 35
th minute, but the Panthers' goalkeeper was able to keep the Spartans off the board.
Plymouth State added its third goal just before the end of the half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Spartans 14-2 through the opening 45 minutes.
The Spartans came out with more offensive pressure in the second half just narrowly being outshot 7-3. Plymouth State added its fourth goal in the 58
th minute, but Castleton continued to find gaps in the defense.
The Spartans broke through in the 75
th minute when
Paige Cargill found
Ella Drake just outside the box, with Drake firing a powerful shot from the 20-yard line into the back of the net.
Castleton continued to battle through the final 15 minutes, but could not find another goal as Plymouth State secured the 4-1 victory.

- Ella Hall made five saves in the first half, while Grace Kallio added two saves in the second.
- Plymouth State finished with a 21-5 advantage in shots, including a 7-3 edge in the second half.

The Spartans will travel to LEC opponent UMass Dartmouth on Friday, October 2, for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
