JOHNSON, Vt. -- The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team swept VTSU Johnson in nonconference action Wednesday afternoon, 7-0.
The Spartans secured the doubles point with wins at all three spots.
Maggie McKearin and
Halle Hipple earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1, finishing third, while
Andrea Rodriguez and
Eva Young took a commanding 6-0 win at No. 2 to finish second.
Mazie Collins and
Eliza Mullen finished first at No. 3 after earning the win via forfeit.
In singles play,
Brooke Hecker earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1, finishing 5th, while
Olivia Rutkowski also posted a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 2 to finish third.
Grace Pluff followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3, finishing fourth, and
Emma Johnson earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 4 to finish sixth. McKearin finished second at No. 5 via forfeit, while Hipple finished first at No. 6 via forfeit.
The Spartans return to action Saturday, September 19, when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for an LEC matchup set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
