NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team erased an early deficit Tuesday afternoon, scoring six unanswered goals to defeat MCLA in nonconference action.

How it Happened:
MCLA struck first in the fifth minute when a shot from outside the box bounced off the crossbar, with a Trailblazer player following up on the rebound to give MCLA an early 1-0 lead.
Following a goal kick,
Kristina O'Neil headed the ball to
Ella Drake, who sent it forward to
Paige Cargill. Cargill found the back of the net in the 17
th minute to level the score at one.
Chloe Green nearly gave the Spartans the lead shortly after, with her shot hitting the post. Green later put another shot toward goal that was blocked by an MCLA defender, but
Natalie Webster was there to collect the rebound and put it in the back of the net, giving Castleton a 2-1 advantage. Â
Makenna Price added to the lead, working her way forward from the back line and beating her defender to make it 3-1.
Kass Sisco recorded her first goal as a Spartan after a Castleton corner kick was deflected by the MCLA goalkeeper. Sisco was there to tap in the rebound and push the lead to 4-1.
MCLA had an opportunity to cut into the lead, but
Maddie Couture made a key defensive save to keep the Spartans ahead.
Price added her second goal of the afternoon in the 62
nd minute, finishing a rebound to make it 5-1.
Allison Galante then connected with
Ila Rankin, who scored her first goal as a Spartan to secure the 6-1 victory.
By the Numbers:
- The Spartans outshot the Trailblazers 33-15.
- Grace Kallio played all 90 minutes and had six saves in the win.
- Sisco and Rankin each recorded their first goals as Spartans.

The Spartans will head to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 19, for a 1 p.m. matchup.
