CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team claimed a huge 14-13 win over Middlebury on Wednesday afternoon, solidified with a walk-off home run by
Justin Strozyk for the Spartans' fourth home run of the game by four different players.

How it Happened:
The Spartans found themselves on the wrong end of a four-run inning as the Panthers jumped ahead four, following the opening inning, before Castleton exploded at the bottom of the third.
Alex McClelland sent a bunt into play for a single and was able to reach first on an error as the sequence brought in
Tripp Shytle (4-1).
Tommie Shaw then grounded out, resulting in another run scoring, which was followed up by a two-run home run by
Trey LaVigne for the first of many from the Spartans as the game sat tied at four.
Carter Dickinson got in on the home run fun, with Castleton's second two-run homer of the day to give the Spartans a 6-4 lead.
Middlebury answered back with an explosive top of the fourth, scoring eight runs, including a three-run home run for their second home run of the game, as they led 12-6. Castleton did not back down as the inning flipped, scoring the seventh run off a walk with the bases loaded, while Strozyk notched a sacrifice fly out to right field to bring
Joe Castellano home, followed by a single from
Josh Misiaszek for one more run as the lead was now three (12-9).
After putting the Panthers down in order at the top of the fifth, the Spartans inched closer at the bottom of the inning, with another walk while the bases were loaded to cut the lead to two (12-10). Strozyk then reached first on an error, allowing Shytle to cross home for a one-run game (12-11). Castleton struck again at the bottom of the sixth, this time with a two-run home run from
Mikey Raby Jr. for his second career home run, putting the Spartans up 13-12.
The Panthers tied the game at 13 at the top of the second with a single, while neither team could put up enough offensive effort to end the game in nine innings.
Carter Chapman struck out the opening batter of the 10th inning before the next two grounded out, leaving the game in the hands of Strozyk at the turn of the inning. He launched his sixth home run of the season as he called game, and the Spartans walked it off for an electric non-conference 14-13 win.
Top Performers:
- Misiaszek, Dickinson, and Shytle led the team with two hits each, while LaVigne and Strozyk led with three RBIs each.
- On the mound, Jake Waller notched a career-high four strikeouts to lead the pitching staff, while Chapman tied his career high of three.
