The Basics:

How it Happened:
The Spartans took an early 1-0 lead at the top of the first as Mikey Raby Jr. was walked with bases loaded. The Cadets answered back following the flip of the inning, taking a 2-1 lead after a single and a run scored off a wild pitch. Castleton left one runner stranded at the top of the second as Norwich took control of the game in the bottom half, putting seven more runs on the board for a 9-1 lead following two complete innings.

Carter Dickinson answered at the top of the third with a single through the left side to bring home two runs as the lead was cut to six (9-3). Tripp Shytle added to the dent made with a single to right field to bring in two more runs as the lead was now four (9-5). The Cadets responded with two more runs at the bottom of the third before a groundout closed out the inning (11-5).

Dickinson notched his second home run in as many days at the top of the third for a three-run homer as the lead was now 11-8. Castleton stranded one runner before the turn of the inning, which Norwich countered with a single for one run and a walk with bases loaded to jump out to a five-run lead at the conclusion of the fourth (13-8).

Both teams went down in order in the fifth inning, while the Cadets added one more run to the board at the bottom of the sixth (14-8). The Spartans responded as the seventh inning got underway with a double from Trey LaVigne to bring home Brenston Velasquez and Dickinson to cut the lead to four (14-10). Joe Castellano sent a single through the left side with no outs to pull the Spartans within three (14-11) before the top of the seventh came to a close with one runner stranded.

Carter Chapman struck out the first and third batters of the bottom of the seventh as the Cadets stranded one, while they added on another run at the bottom of the eighth off a single for a 15-11 lead.

At the top of the ninth, the Spartans exploded for 13 unanswered runs, beginning with Lucas Sinacola's single through the right side, which Tommie Shaw followed up with a single of his own as the lead was now two (15-13). A single by Christian Giannone and a double by Dickinson put the Spartans up 16-15 as the ninth inning continued on.
