CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team secured its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Curry College, 9-4, at Dave Wolk Stadium.

How it Happened
Castleton wasted little time getting on the board as
Halle Christian opened the scoring with 9:50 remaining in the first quarter and added another goal just over two minutes later to give the Spartans an early 2-0 lead.
Curry responded with a goal from Nicole Michael midway through the period, but the Spartans answered with a strong offensive push.
Phoebe Loomis,
Renny Cota and
Megan Culp all scored in the final minutes of the opening quarter, helping Castleton take a 5-2 lead into the second.
The Spartans continued their momentum early in the second quarter.
Taylor Tallmadge converted a free position attempt before Loomis struck again just 11 seconds later, extending the advantage to 7-2.
Curry found the back of the net once more before halftime as Ella Palanza scored with just over three minutes remaining, sending the teams into the break with Castleton leading 7-3.
Loomis completed her hat trick in the third quarter, pushing the Spartan lead to five goals. Curry answered later in the period with Samantha Sprissler scoring her second goal of the game to cut the deficit to 8-4.
Castleton capped the scoring early in the fourth quarter when
Lanza Bellomo converted a free position opportunity for her first collegiate tally to seal the 9-4 victory.
