NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Vermont State University Castleton softball team earned a hard-fought win over Immaculata University in their second game of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic.

How it Happened:
The Spartans got on the board first in the opening inning as
Maddy Dudley reached on an error and advanced two bases on wild pitches.
Samera Rideout grounded out but successfully brought Dudley home, giving Castleton a 1-0 advantage. Immaculata responded in the second, scoring a run on a single and a sacrifice bunt to tie the game at one.
Castleton regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. A single and a defensive miscue allowed Rideout to score, giving Makayla Wash the chance to bring in the lone run of the inning, putting the Spartans ahead 2-1. The next few innings remained scoreless until the fifth, when Immaculata managed to score two runs on a string of singles, taking a 3-2 lead.
With two outs,
Abby Hacker singled up the middle to reach base, and Rideout doubled to left field, driving in two runs.
Alex Brouillette followed with another double, sending Rideout home and completing a three-run rally to put Castleton ahead 5-3. The remainder of the game remained scoreless as the Spartans held on for their second win of the day.
Top Performers:
- Rideout went 2-for-3 with four runs driven in.
- Gould struck out 10 batters while only issung one walk.

Castleton will continue play in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic tomorrow facing PSU-Abington at 11 a.m. and Brevard College at 1 p.m.
