CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's lacrosse team suffered a 9-3 loss to Rivier University in its first home contest of the season Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened
Rivier won the opening faceoff and proceeded to score three straight goals to lead 3-0 after 8:17. Castleton was finally able to respond at 5:17 as
Carter Frankenhoff netted one for the Spartans to make it 3-1. The Raiders added one more in the opening stanza to take a 4-1 advantage after one period.
In a quieter second period, the visitors tacked on two more goals to lead 6-1 heading into the halftime break.
The Spartans broke through midway through the third period as
Jason Samek did the work in front of the Raiders' goal to make it 6-2.
Rivier scored again at the 3:06 mark, while Castleton answered less than a minute later with an unassisted tally by
Matt Gregoire to make it 7-3 heading into the final quarter.
The visitors added two more goals in the fourth period for the 9-3 final.
