GORHAM, ME- The Vermont State Castleton field hockey team faced the University of Southern Maine in a LEC matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies won 3-1.

How It Happened
The Huskies offense was on the attack in the early stages of the first quarter. Southern Maine had five shots with two on goal and one blocked in the first three minutes of the contest. Castleton then got its turn for just over three minutes of game time as the Spartans had three shots on frame and a shot blocked. The Huskies were the first to score at 13:50.
In the second quarter, the Spartans continued to attack in the Husky zone with a pair of shots and three penalty corners. Neither team had a shot in the final 12:16 of the period as the Huskies held on to their 1-0 lead at halftime.
Mackena Roberson (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls Central) had the first shot for either team five minutes into the third quarter. Southern Maine's first and only shot of the quarter came at 41:35 on a goal by Maddie Niles as the home team now led 2-0.
The Huskies went ahead 3-0 at 51:58. Castleton finally got on the board when
Peyton Richardson (Windsor, Vt./Windsor) scored at 57:28 to make it a 3-1 contest. That would be the last shot for either team as the Huskies came away with the win.
