How It Happened
The Panthers scored the game's first goal at 12:24 of the first quarter. Plymouth State then got off two consecutive shots on frame that Spartan goalkeeper Izabella Cosden (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area HS) turned away.

Castleton had its chance to tie the game up with three shots that were denied by Panther keeper Natalie Merrick. The Spartans had a late opportunity to score at 28:47 but Lilyanna Case's (New Haven, Vt./Mount Abraham) shot attempt was thwarted by Plymouth State's Cassidy Leger as the Panthers led 1-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Spartans continued their attack early on in the period with Gwyn Vincent (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls Central) getting consecutive shots attempts stopped. The Panthers scored again at 34:56 to take a 2-0 lead. Cosden made a couple of saves in the 38th minute to prevent the Panthers from increasing their advantage.

The Spartans finally broke through in the 49th minute as Vincent scored off an assist from Peyton Richardson (Windsor, Vt./Windsor). Castleton was back in the game and Vincent scored the equalizer less than three minutes later. Vincent had a couple of looks at a potential game-winning score but Merrick stopped both shots to send the game to overtime.

In the first overtime period, Vincent again had a pair of shot attempts denied by Merrick. Allison Friel (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area HS) had a shot glance off the left post. The Spartan defense blocked two Panther shots.
