How It Happened
Castleton jumped out to an early four-point lead, with Ben Seiler scoring seven of the Spartans' first nine points and did not miss a shot in the opening four minutes. UMass Boston answered to tie the game at 9-9 following a steal off an inbound pass, swinging momentum in favor of the Beacons.
The Spartans kept pace early, but UMass Boston caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down 17 three-pointers on the night. The Beacons closed out the half on a 25-14 run, taking control and heading into the second half with a 47-29 lead.
Castleton struggled to find its rhythm to open the second half. Will Radcliff knocked down a three-pointer two minutes in, but the Spartans went the next three minutes without a basket as UMass Boston continued to stretch the lead. Joe Buxton and Jackson Doyle each chipped in a few baskets to bring the Spartans closer, but the Beacons' hot outside shooting and points off turnovers were too much to overcome.
