MIDDLEBURY, Vt.- The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team made the trip up Route 30 for a visit with the Panthers of Middlebury Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0.

How it Happened:
- Emma Ezzo made six big saves in the first 18 minutes to keep the score even, but the Panthers broke through in the 19th minute on a penalty kick opportunity.
- Building on their momentum, Middlebury added two more goals in the 43rd and 44th minutes to close out the first half with a 3-0 lead.
- As the second half began, rookie Julie Cooper made her collegiate debut in goal, making her first collegiate save in the 46th minute.
- The Spartan offense made a push against the Panther defense but could not break through. On the back end of the field, the defense continued to challenge Middlebury.
- The Panthers pushed past the Spartan defense, scoring their fourth goal in the 71st minute and their fifth and final goal at the 79th minute, securing the win.
By the Numbers:
- Ezzo made seven saves through 45 minutes, with Cooper adding two saves in her collegiate debut.
What's Next
The team makes its home debut on Wednesday, September 10, when they host RPI, slated for a 7 p.m. start.
