CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team hosted RPI Wednesday night in its home opener, narrowly falling 1-0.

- Emma Ezzo and the Spartan defense went to work in the first half as the Engineers tested them with 17 shots.
- Ezzo made seven saves through the first 45 minutes of play, with the strong defensive back line blocking six shots.
- In the 43rd minute, the Spartans let up a foul in the box, giving the Engineers a penalty kick opportunity, which was missed high, keeping the score even at zero.
- As the second half got underway, the Engineers snuck a ball past the Castleton back line, taking a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.
- Castleton had two corner kick chances as the second half continued, but could not break past RPI's strong defense.
