Women's Soccer Takes Down Chargers

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team took down Colby-Sawyer Sunday afternoon, 6-0, behind six different goal scorers as Megan Carson scored her first career goal on an open net.

The Basics:
  • Final Score: 6-0 Castleton
  • Location: Castleton, Vt. – Dave Wolk Stadium
  • Records: 4-6-0 Castleton | 4-4-3 Colby-Sawyer
How it Happened:
  • Maggie McKearin and Chloe Green continue to dominate on the offensive end for the Spartans as their connection strengthens.
  • In the 11th minute, Green found McKearin making her way into the box as McKearin beat her defender to put the Spartans up 1-0.
  • The pair continued to pester the Chargers' back line for the remainder of the first half, which saw Castleton outshoot the Chargers 9-3, while Emma Ezzo made three saves before the end of the first 45 minutes.
  • The Spartans kept pressure on Colby-Sawyer in the second half as Green notched her fifth goal of the week in the 54th minute off a long ball from Becky Hannwacker, putting the Spartans up 2-0.
  • Hannwacker got in on the scoring action eight minutes later, scoring off a rebounded shot from McKearin, extending Castleton's lead to three.
  • Emma Patrissi scored her second goal in as many days in the 63rd minute, sending the ball past the keeper off a long ball from McKearin, giving the Spartans a 4-0 lead.
  • In the 73rd minute, Ella Drake made a turn pass to Makenna Price as she entered the box between three defenders, and Price launched the ball into the top left corner of the goal for her second goal of her career, and Drake's first assist of her career.
  • Castleton was not done yet, as Carson gained control of the ball before the Chargers keeper could get to it at the top of the box, sending the ball into the open net for the final goal of the game, and first of her career.
  • With less than three minutes to go, Julie Cooper made her only save of the day, solidifying the Spartans' 6-0 win as Castleton's two keepers let in no goals on the day.
By the Numbers:
  • McKearin and Green led the team in shots on goal with eight and four respectively, while Paige Cargill and Maya Coviello tacked on two each.
  • McKearin led the Spartans with four points on the day from a goal and two assists, with Green and Hannwacker ending with three points each from one goal and one assist.
  • Ezzo finished the day with three saves through 53 minutes of play, while Cooper made one save through the remaining 36 minutes.
