CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team dropped a tightly contested battle with UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon, falling 4-3 to the Little East Conference team.
The Spartans notched the doubles point from a win at the one spot from
Stella Forte and
Madelyn Nonni, 6-3, and a win via forfeit at the second spot with
Ginny Trevisan and
Andrea Rodriguez taking a win.
Olivia Rutkowski and
Devon Kibbey fell 7-6 with an 8-6 tie breaker deciding the outcome at the third spot.
In singles play, Forte earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 1 and Trevisan picked up Castleton's other singles win at No. 3, 6-2, 6-3. Nonni fell 4-6, 1-6 at No. 2, and
Sophia Hussak dropped her match at No. 4, 2-6, 1-6. At No. 5, Kibbey fell 3-6, 3-6, and Rutkowski fell in straight sets at No. 6.
The Spartans host fellow VTSU school Lyndon on Wednesday, September 24, with a start time of 4 p.m. at the Castleton Tennis Courts.
