CASTLETON, Vt. – It was a night of firsts as he Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team took down MCLA Wednesday night 5-0, as
Maggie McKearin scored her first career hat trick, and
Paige Cargill and
Makenna Price scored their first collegiate goals. Prior to the match, the team honored professor Marybeth Lennox-Levins and former player Makenzi Bellando as honorary captains for the team's Women in Sports Night for all they have done on the Castleton campus and in the surrounding communities to lead, inspire, and educate the next generation of women in sports.

How it Happened:
- McKearin started the night off for the Spartans in the third minute, giving Castleton a 1-0 lead after battling her way through two defenders and finding the back of the net.
- Less than 20 minutes later, on a corner kick, Cargill sent the ball to the back post, finding McKearin's head for her second goal of the night.
- In the 29th minute, Cargill set up for another corner kick, finding McKearin's head yet again, giving McKearin her first career hat trick and Cargill her first career points at Castleton.
- As the first half came to a close, Maya Coviello found the ball off a rebound from a Trailblazer defender, sending it to Price waiting at the top of the box, who then was able to launch the ball past the keeper for her first points as a Spartan.
- Coviello found herself with her second assist of the night in the 57th minute, sending the ball out to a wide-open Cargill, who blasted a shot from just outside the box, sneaking it in between the keeper at the post for her first goal in green and white.
- The Spartans continued to dominate on the offensive end as time wound down, putting up eight shots before the game ended, and the team earned its first win of the season.
By the Numbers:
- Emma Ezzo made three saves in net.
- McKearin led the Spartans with three goals, followed by Cargill and Price with one each.
- Coviello and Cargill notched two assists each.
- Castleton outshot the Trailblazers 28-6.
