CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team swept VTSU Johnson in its home opener Sunday afternoon, 7-0.
The Spartans secured a win via forfeit at the No. 3 spot, as the Badgers had four players, which meant they needed to win at least one of the top two matches to take the doubles point. At the No. 1 spot,
Stella Forte and
Madelyn Nonni took a commanding 6-0 win, while
Olivia Rutkowski and
Andrea Rodriguez earned a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot to lock in the doubles point for the Spartans.
In singles play, Castleton earned two more points via forfeits at the fifth and sixth spots. Forte swept her opponent 6-3, 6-0 at the first spot, while Nonni earned a two-set sweep 6-1, 6-0 at the second spot.
Ginny Trevisan and
Devon Kibbey blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at the third and fourth spots respectively, to solidify the Spartan sweep.
The team heads to Bridgewater State on Thursday, September 11, for an LEC matchup set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
