BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team opened up Little East Conference play on Thursday at Bridgewater State, falling 7-0.
At the first doubles spot,
Stella Forte and
Madelyn Nonni fell 6-2, while
Ginny Trevisan and
Andrea Rodriguez put up a fight at the second spot, ultimately dropping their match 7-5. The Spartans lost by default at the third spot, allowing the Bears to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, Forte pushed Emma Gibney to the limit, falling 5-7, 5-7 at No.1. Nonni dropped her match in straight sets at No. 2, 4-6, 1-6. At No. 3, Trevisan came up short, 3-6, 0-6, and
Sophia Hussak dropped straight sets 0-6, 2-6 at No. 4. Rodriguez was topped 0-6, 1-6 at No. 5, while Castleton lost via default at No.6.
The team heads to Hudson Valley Community College next week for a friendly match, before hosting LEC opponent UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, September 20, for homecoming weekend, set to begin at 12 p.m.
