PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team opened the season against Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, falling 6-1.
 
The Spartans dropped all three doubles matches to begin the evening, with 
Stella Forte and 
Madelyn Nonni narrowly falling at the first spot, 7-6. 
Sophia Hussak and 
Andrea Rodriguez fell at the second spot 6-1, while 
Ginny Trevisan and 
Olivia Rutkowski dropped the final doubles match 6-3.
 
In singles play, Trevisan notched Castleton's lone point at the third spot, sweeping Ava Perry 6-3, 6-2. Forte, Nonni, 
Devon Kibbey, and Rutkowski fell respectively at the first, second, fifth, and sixth spots. Hussak fought with Kristy Cantwell after falling in the first set 6-0 and taking the second 6-4 to force the deciding third set, where she came up short, 6-3.
 
The Spartans return to action Friday, August 29, when they travel to Russell Sage College for a 4 p.m. start.
