LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team got back in the win column on Wednesday with an 11-5 win over VTSU Lyndon.

How it Happened
- After a quiet first inning, the Spartans exploded for five runs at the top of the second.
- It started with the bases loaded as Christian Giannone sent a sacrifice fly out to right field, bringing Brandon Ramirez home.
- On the next at-bat, Robbie Briggs singled to the second baseman, allowing Mason Meinke to score.
- Two batters later, with two runners on, Jack Boyle sent his third home run of the season out of the park, giving Castleton a 5-0 lead at the turn of the inning.
- The Hornets tacked on one run off a double to left field, before Stephen Coffey retired the side with a strikeout.
- The third and fourth innings saw both teams close out the side with no more runs.
- With Meinke up to the plate at the top of the fifth, Ramirez stole second, while Justin Strozyk stole home, to extend the lead to five.
- The Hornets flipped the switch in the bottom half of the fifth, four runs to cut the lead to one heading into the sixth inning.
- The bats picked up for Castleton again at the top of the seventh, with Meinke launching a triple to right field, bringing three runs across, with Trey LaVigne sending Meinke home on a single to give the Spartans a 10-5 lead.
- The final run of the game came at the top of the eighth, with Cardozo sending a double to left field to bring Boyle home.
Top Performers
Boyle led the squad with three hits and three RBIs, Meinke added two hits and three RBIs, and Strozyk tacked on two hits.
Coffey saw the Spartans through four and one-third innings with one strikeout, with
Carter Chapman finishing the fifth inning.
Keaton Nann earned his first collegiate win, adding one strikeout, and
Kyle Wilson closed out the final two innings for Castleton.
What's Next
The Spartans play host to the Anchormen of Rhode Island College on Friday, May 2 in a Little East Conference double-header, with the first game set to begin at 12 p.m.
