CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton softball team split a pair of games against Little East Conference opponent Western Connecticut State University on Monday. Junior
Alexis Rogers became the 16th player in program history to collect 100 career hits.

How it Happened:
- DeLong captured two strikeouts in the top of the second inning.
- WestConn opened the scoring a with huge third inning, collecting four runs on four hits to give them a 4-0 lead.
- The Wolves extended their lead with two more runs on three hits in the top of the fourth.
- Francie McMahon made her debut on the mound for the Spartans, striking out her first batter in the top of the fifth.
- WestConn were able to collect three more runs, giving them a 9-0 lead.
- Rogers got her first hit of the day in the bottom of the fifth, but would be left on base as the Spartans couldn't find the bats to generate a comeback, giving WestConn the early win.

How it Happened:
- Gould punched out two batters in the top of the second inning.
- A defensive battle took over in game two, as each side struggled to find its footing offensively.
- Gould continued to deal out strikes, as she collected at least one strikeout in all seven innings.
- Castleton found some momentum in the bottom of the sixth with Gould reaching first base and Dana Elkins coming in to pinch run.
- Rogers sent a single deep to center field for her 100th career hit and advanced Elkins to third base.
- Taylor Russell provided a bunt to send home Elkins, putting up the first run of the game.
- Samera Rideout was walked on her at bat and was able to steal second to put her and Russell in scoring positions.
- Masson Billert crushed a single to right center to bring home both Russell and Rideout to extend Castleton's lead to three.
- The Spartans shutout the Wolves after a punch out and groundout to Gould, giving the Spartans a 3-0 victory.
