CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton softball team was defeated in a pair of games by Keene State on Saturday. With her four hits on Saturday,
Samera Rideout became the 15th player in program history to collect 100 career hits.

How it Happened:
- With a rain delay playing in affect, the bats were not in full effect as only a total of five hits were established in game one.
- One of Castleton's hits were a double from Rideout, which was her first hit of the day.
- Gould was fantastic on the mound, allowing only one hit and providing seven strikeouts on 104 pitches.
- The Owls were able to send a runner home on a sacrifice bunt, giving them a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
- Castleton fought to find a tying run. Jess Heinrichs and Rideout reached base and found themselves on the corners of the diamond, but were unsuccessful making it home.
- The Owls would hold on with their one hit and one run game, giving them their first win after losing seven straight.

How it Happened:
- Keene opened the scoring the two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Owls cracked the bats in the third inning, collecting five hits and tacking on two more runs to extend their lead to four.
- The Spartans answered with Alexis Rogers hitting a double down the left field line and sending Gould to third.
- Taylor Russell hit a sacrifice flyout to send Gould home and give Castleton their first run of the game.
- The Spartans tallied another run with Rogers making it to home plate on fielder's choice to cut into Keene's lead at 4-2.
- The Owls were able to put together a string of runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 7-2 contest. They were able to put away the Spartans and secure the game two victory and the series sweep.

VTSU Castleton returns to action Wednesday, April 23 against RPI at home with games slated for 3 and 5 p.m.
