NEW HAVEN, CT. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team found its way into the win column in style, dominating from start to finish in an 18-1 road victory over Albertus Magnus on Tuesday night at Celentano Field.
The Basics:
- Final Score: VTSU Castleton 18, Albertus Magnus 1
- Location: Celentano Field – New Haven, Conn.
- Records: Castleton 2-8 | Albertus Magnus 0-8
How It Happened:
The Spartans wasted no time setting the tone, scoring seven unanswered goals in the first quarter.
Brianna Paul opened the scoring less than a minute into the game before assisting
Phoebe Loomis for Castleton's second goal. From there, the Spartans poured on the pressure, with
Gianna Geraci,
Bella Gale, and
Taylor Tallmadge all finding the back of the net to give Castleton a commanding 7-0 lead after the first.
The offensive onslaught continued in the second quarter as the Spartans added four more goals, including strikes from
Megan Ward and
Renny Cota, sending Castleton into halftime with an 11-0 advantage. The Spartans kept up their intensity in the third, extending their lead to 15-0 before closing out the game with three more goals in the fourth quarter.
Albertus Magnus broke the shutout with a late goal from Moira O'Brien, but it was too little, too late as Castleton secured its second win of the season in dominant fashion.
Defensively, Castleton stifled Albertus Magnus, limiting the Falcons to just one goal and forcing multiple turnovers.
Gianna Geraci was a key presence on both ends, contributing two goals while also disrupting the Falcons' offensive rhythm. The Spartans' defensive pressure, combined with solid goal tending, ensured Albertus Magnus had few quality scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
