NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Vermont State University women's lacrosse team was dealt a tough loss by Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon, 20-3.

How it Happened
The hosts took three minutes to find the back of the goal, sparking a 7-0 run that led well into the second quarter. Castleton was finally able to slow Mount Saint Mary as
Phoebe Loomis posted her unassisted tally at 8:14, making it 7-1 in favor of the Knights. They were able to score five more times before the half, owning a 12-1 advantage heading into the break.
The Spartans came back with intensity in the second half, with
Megan Ward making the stat sheet off a dish from Loomis to cut the deficit to 10, 14:06 remaining in the third. Following a pair of goals by Mount Saint Mary, Ward beat the keeper for her second of the day, keeping her squad within 11, 14-3. The Knights put up six more unanswered to walk away with a 20-3 victory.
Both Ward and Loomis finished the day with two points, the former with two goals and the latter with a goal and an assist.
Brianna Paul won eight draw controls for the Spartans, while
Katie Stager made six saves in the crease.

Castleton will return home on Monday as it plays host to the Bison of Nichols College for a 4 p.m. nonconference matchup.
