MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team battled with the Huntingdon Hawks as they closed out their southern road trip on Saturday. The Spartans tied the game in the fifth before the Hawks came back to take a 6-2 win.

How it Happened
The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the first, with a single bringing in one run to take a 1-0 lead. The Spartans found an answer in
Jackson Cardozo in the top of the third, sending a single to left field to bring a run across the plate to tie the game at one apiece. The Hawks and the Spartans went down in order in the bottom of the third, and top of the fourth to keep it even. Huntingdon found another run in the bottom of the fourth, to jump ahead 2-1.
Mikey Raby Jr. was able to get things going again for Castleton in the top of the fifth, sending a double down the left side, and advancing to third on the second out of the inning.
Jack Boyle came up to the plate, reaching first on an error, with Raby crossing the plate to tie the game 2-2. The Hawks got going again in the bottom of the sixth, with three runs scored, adding another in the eighth to take the 6-2 win.
Top Performers
Cardozo led the way for the Spartans with two hits and an RBI, with Raby adding two hits. Five more Spartans had one hit apiece.
Nick Lescarbeau pitched through seven innings, throwing four strikeouts, with
Adam Winchell coming on in relief, throwing one strikeout in the eighth.

Castleton has the week off with their next game scheduled at Union College on Wednesday, March 12 set to start at 3:30 p.m.
