SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team fell in a tight battle to the Garnet Chargers of Union, 5-3 Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
- The Garnet Chargers struck first, with two doubles in the bottom of the second to pull in two runs and take an early 2-0 lead.
- The Spartans flipped gears early in the fourth, with Tyler Dubreuil and Jack Boyle earning walks and Jackson Cardozo reaching on a fielder's choice to set up for the following at-bats.
- Tyler McLain reached on a fielder's choice, with him and Boyle earning stolen bases on the next at-bat. Boyle stole home to bring the Spartans within one before the end of the fourth.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Union extended the lead to 3-1 with a home run out to center field.
- Turner Clews grounded out in the bottom of the seventh, bringing in McLain to make the score 3-2.
- Cardozo singled in the top of the eighth to bring in Dubreuil to tie the game at three.
- The Garnet Chargers came back fighting, putting up two more runs in the bottom of the eight, to claim the 5-3 win.

Brandon Ramirez all notched one hit each, with Cardozo and Clews bringing in one RBI apiece.
Luke Russell notched the start for Castleton going four innings, with two strikeouts.
Adam Winchell threw for one inning, rookie

Stephen Coffey closed out in the eighth.
