Late Push Not Enough as Spartans Fall to Cardinals

CASTLETON, VT. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's lacrosse team fell to Plattsburgh State despite an attempt at a comeback on Saturday afternoon, 11-6.

How it Happened

The Cardinals took control early, scoring three unanswered goals in the first quarter to establish a 3-0 lead. Dylan Ruland opened the scoring at 13:14, followed by man-up goals from Ruland and Donald Woods to close out the period.
 
Castleton responded in the second quarter, breaking through with an unassisted goal from Jordan Damske at 8:31. Less than a minute later, Liam Evarts found the back of the net to bring the Spartans within two. However, Plattsburgh countered with three more goals before halftime, heading into the break with a 7-2 advantage.
 
Evarts struck again early in the third quarter, assisted by Preston Kozlowski, but another man-up goal from Ruland kept the Cardinals in front. Castleton made a late push in the fourth quarter, as Cam Frankenhoff notched back-to-back goals, cutting the deficit to 9-5.

After an exchange of goals, Carter Frankenhoff scored at 1:39 to bring Castleton within four, but Plattsburgh sealed the win with a late goal from Justin Ortiz.
