NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Vermont State University Castleton softball team split a pair of games Friday morning. The Spartans defeated Rochester Christian University 6-0. They then followed up with a 7-0 defeat against Lycoming College.

How It Happened:
- Taylor Russell smacked a double into right field to put herself into scoring position in the second inning. Vinna Jensen followed up with a double of her own, bringing in Russell to give Castleton the first run of the game.
- Mikayla Brightman advanced Jensen to third with a single, she then stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Makayla Walsh advanced the runners and brought in Jensen with a sacrifice flyout to tally another run for Castleton.
- Brightman scored on a passed ball to end the inning with a 3-0 lead.
- DeLong punched out two batters back-to-back in the second inning to keep the Warriors from generating any early momentum.
- The Spartans continued to collect doubles against the Warriors, with Alexis Rogers hitting one to start the third inning and Samera Rideout following up with a double of her own to bring her Rogers to extend Castleton's lead to four.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Walsh connected for a triple to set up Madison Gould, who hit an RBI double to bring the score to five.
- Walsh and Gould would connect again on back-to-back doubles to give Gould her second RBI and Walsh her second run of the game to finalize Castleton's score at six.
- DeLong held strong on the mound, keeping the Warriors scoreless on five hits to secure Castleton's second victory in South Carolina.

How It Happened:
- Lycoming opened the scoring with an early RBI single. Rachel Daub reached home after Castleton caught a runner trying to steal second base to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead after one inning.
- Kayleigh Osterhaudt collected her first hit of the season with a double. Jess Heinrichs and Rogers each hit singles as well.
- The Warriors strung together a strong inning with five hits and five runs to give them a 7-0 lead after three innings of play.
- Dana Elkins entered the game on the mound and made a quick outing in the fourth to give the Spartans a boost on defense.
- Each side entered a stalemate for the last three innings, putting up a combined 2 hits. Leaving the Warriors with a 7-0 win.
VTSU Castleton returns to play with two contests Saturday, March 15, starting at 11 a.m. against University of Minnesota Morris. Followed by a 3 p.m. matchup against University of Maine-Farmington at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
