How It Happened:
  • The game started in a pitching/defensive showdown, as each side combined for four hits through the first three innings. Gould was dealing on the mound for the Spartans. Six of her 10 strikeouts came within the first three innings, her 10 strikeouts became a new career high for the sophomore two-way player.
  • Morris' Olivia Losee generated a double to put herself into scoring position. She then reached home with a single RBI from Jillian Anderson to give the Cougars the first lead of the game at 1-0.
  • In the sixth inning, Castleton's Jess Heinrichs and Taylor Russell found themselves in scoring positions with a sacrifice bunt from Masson Billert. Makayla Walsh came up to bat as a pinch hitter and was able to bring Heinrichs on her at-bat to bring the game back level at one.
  • At Castleton's next at bat, Russell was able to make it home after an error by Minnesota's catcher to give Castleton a 2-1 lead.
  • The Cougars were looking to tie the game back up as they got runners on first and second base in the bottom of the sixth, Gould stayed composed and proceeded to strike out two batters and deal out a fly out to right field to keep the Spartan ahead.
  • Castleton unloaded the bats in the top of the seventh. Jordan Hill and Alexis Rogers reached second and third base after multiple errors came from the Cougars.
  • Samera Rideout blasted a single through the left side to advance the runners and bring Hill home to give Castleton a 3-1 lead.
  • Dana Elkins entered for Rideout as a pinch runner, where she stole second and allowed Rogers to steal home and increase Castleton's lead to four.
  • Russell reached base on a walk and Billert reached base after getting hit by a pitch to load the bases up with only one out.
  • Kayleigh Osterhaudt connected on the pitch and sent the ball deep through the left side to bring in two RBIs, giving the Spartans a 6-1 lead.
  • Castleton finalized the game with two quick outs and Gould's 10th punch out of the game to seal the victory and improve their record to 3-4.

  • A stalemate entered in the later innings, as neither team generated a hit until the top of the seventh, where Gould collected her fourth hit of the game with her team-leading seventh double of the season.
  • The Beavers were able to find an answer in the last inning of play, as they collected two hits and two runs, with Jessica Dow hitting a walk-off single up the middle for two RBIs to complete the comeback against the Spartans 3-2.
