NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Vermont State University Castleton softball was defeated 7-0 in their second contest of the day against Mississippi University of Women.

How It Happened:
- Gould struck out back-to-back batters at the top of the second inning to keep the Owls scoreless.
- Taylor Russell reached first on a single and then advanced to a scoring position on a passed ball, but couldn't make it home as the Owls garnered three straights.
- Jordan Hill collected her first hit of the season in the third inning with a single down center field.
- MUW opened the scoring with three runs on two hits and an error to give them the first lead of the game.
- The Owls reached home three times on three walks to extend their lead to six. They collected one hit in the fifth inning to give them a 7-0 lead.
- The Spartans were able to shut down the Owls for the remaining innings, but couldn't put any bats together, giving MUW the victory.
VTSU Castleton returns to play with two contests Friday March 14, starting at 9 a.m. against Rochester Christian University. Followed by a 11 a.m. matchup against Lycoming at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach S.C.
