MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team was shut out by Huntingdon Saturday evening, falling 10-0 in seven innings.

How it Happened
The Hawks put up runs in four of the seven innings, striking in the bottom of the first, putting two runs across the plate.
Tommie Shaw notched a single up the middle in the top of the second, with
Trey LaVigne being walked behind him, but the Hawks were able to notch the third out to shut any scoring down.
The Hawks tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third, and another in the fourth. The Spartans had two runners on base with two outs in the top of the fifth, but could not convert on the final at-bat of the inning. Huntingdon tacked on four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-0 lead. Castleton could not get anything going in the final two at-bats, giving the Hawks the win.
Top Performers
Shaw led the Spartans with two hits, with
Jackson Cardozo and
Brendan Shader adding one each.
Luke Russell notched the start, pitching three innings, with
Owen Phelps coming on in relief for two innings, and
Carter Chapman closing out the final inning.

The Spartans will face off with the Hawks again on Sunday, with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. EST.
