Baseball Drops Heartbreaker Against Rhodes

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team suffered a late comeback by Rhodes in a neutral site match up on Friday afternoon, falling 5-3.

How it Happened
The Lynx scored first in the top of the third inning, with a double to right field, and tacked on another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Spartans found their groove in the bottom of the fifth inning, bringing in one run off an error. Tyler Dubreuil sent a single down the left side to bring another run across the plate, to tie the game at 2-2.

Brendan Shader started off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single to left field to bring the Spartan's third run of the game in and take a 3-2 lead. Neither team could find anything in the seventh inning. Castleton was able to turn a double play in the top of the eighth, but could not get anything going in the bottom of the inning. Rhodes was able to find three more runs in the top of the ninth and put the Spartans down in order to take the game, 5-3.

Top Performers
Dubreuil, Shader, Jackson Cardozo, and Turner Clews all found two hits apiece, with Dubreuil and Shader bringing in one RBI each.

Sam Crawford threw the first seven innings, with seven strikeouts, and Alex Bingham came on in relief adding one strikeout.
