SHREVEPORT, La. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team's early efforts were insufficient as the Diamond Gents found a late surge to take the game 11-1 in seven innings.
The Basics
- Final Score: Centenary College 11, VTSU Castleton 1
- Location: Shehee Stadium – Shreveport, La.
- Records: Centenary 5-5 | Castleton 1-4
How it Happened
Jack Boyle started the Spartans off in the two spot, slamming his first home run of the season to start with a 1-0 lead. The Diamond Gents found three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. The second through fourth innings saw little action, with the Spartans looking to make a move in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Boyle was caught stealing home, shutting down the Spartan's chance to tack on another run.
Castleton could not get anything going at the top of the sixth, which the Diamond Gents took advantage of, scoring four more runs. The Spartan's last at-bat of the game in the top of the seventh, saw a single from Boyle, with
Tyler McLain earning a walk to get two on, with the last batter of the inning striking out, leaving them stranded. Centenary scored three more runs off a triple, and one off a single to end the game 11-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
