How It Happened
Rowan opened the contest with a 69-yard touchdown run on its first play and continued to find success through the first half, taking a 55-0 lead into the break.
Castleton regrouped in the second half, as its defense was able to adjust to a monstrous offense. The Spartans held the Profs to just one touchdown over the final 30 minutes.
Deacon Schneider led the defensive effort with 12 tackles and two tackles for loss, while
Isaiah Oufiero and
Tyler Buxton each contributed stops.
Alex Polli and
Zeke Dubois added pass breakups that stalled Rowan drives, and the unit forced a turnover on downs late in the third quarter to swing momentum back toward the Spartans.
That spark carried into the offense's best drive of the day, when
Jhai Vellon connected with
Jacob Calabro for a 65-yard touchdown down the seam midway through the third quarter. The two-play, 75-yard drive put Castleton on the board, capped by
Connor Chilson's extra point.
The Spartans continued to battle defensively in the fourth, keeping Rowan off the scoreboard and finishing the game with 60 total tackles, including three for loss.
