Coombs Sisters Log Double-Doubles as Women's Basketball Rolls Past Fisher

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's basketball coasted past Fisher College, 100-10, in the Spartan Classic's final game. Arianna and Bella Coombs each recorded double-doubles, combining for 33 points and 25 rebounds.

How it Happened:
The first quarter was all about the Spartans as they poured in 28 points before the buzzer. Defensively, Castleton grabbed nine steals, with Stasia Epler snagging three in a 50-second stretch. Castleton scored 20 of 28 points off turnovers. Kenuelys Velazquez hit a three-pointer in the final 30 seconds, putting the Falcons on the board.

The Spartans reached 50 points as time expired in the first half. Bella Coombs posted four points with two rebounds and an assist in the second quarter, as the Castleton bench combined for 17 points during the second frame, including Julie Cooper scoring her first points as a Spartan.

The Fisher defense turned up the pressure coming out of halftime, holding the Spartans' offense to just 16 points. Epler scored a three with six minutes left in the quarter, as the Falcons finished the quarter with three made free throws.

Arianna Coombs notched 10 points in the fourth quarter, giving her a career-high 19 and matching her career-high with 11 rebounds. Castleton drained a game-high 34 points in the final 10 minutes, coasting to victory. The team tied the program record for points in a game with 100, matching the team's win over Green Mountain in 2014.
