CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team welcomed UMass Boston for a midweek Little East Conference match Wednesday afternoon for its Breast Cancer Awareness game, as the Spartans fell 7-0.
In doubles play,
Stella Forte and
Madelyn Nonni fell 6-0 at the top spot, while
Devon Kibbey and
Olivia Rutkowski dropped 6-1 at the third spot.
Ginny Trevisan and
Sophia Hussak finished up doubles play at the second spot, falling 6-2.
As the clouds took over and the sun was setting on the tennis courts, Trevisan took a 7-6 (7-5) win in the first set at No. 3, before being forced into a third set after a 0-6 loss in the second, but ultimately fell 5-10 in Castleton's grittiest match of the day. At No. 1 Forte fell 6-0, 6-0, while Nonni dropped at No. 2 6-2, 6-0. Hussak fell 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4, Kibbey fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, and Rutkowski dropped her match 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
The team heads up to Southern Maine on Saturday, October 11, for a Little East Conference matchup, with the first serve set for 1 p.m.
