GORHAM, Maine – The Vermont State University Castleton men's soccer team took a trip up to Maine to battle in a Little East Conference match against Southern Maine, falling 1-0.

How it Happened:
- The Spartans found themselves with a quick corner kick opportunity in the third minute, but were unable to convert to take an early lead.
- Castleton had two more opportunities in the 10th minute, but Sean Butler's shot was blocked, and the team's second corner kick attempt of the day was no good.
- Xander Berthiaume stood strong in the net through the first 45 minutes, stopping six shots before the half came to a close.
- The Huskies badgered Castleton's back line as the second half began, firing off two shots and two corner kick opportunities before finding the back of the net in the 60th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.
- Southern Maine fired off three more shots before Matt Spiller sent in a corner kick that was not converted in the 78th minute.
- In the 89th minute, Jacques Alfani fired off a header, but was stopped by the Huskies' keeper, leaving Southern Maine with the 1-0 win.
By the Numbers:
- Butler, Alfani, and El Hadji Iba Sy notched the only three shots for the Spartans.
