Women's Tennis Comes Up Short Against Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team dropped a midweek, Little East Conference match to Plymouth State on Tuesday, falling 4-2.

Stella Forte notched a 6-2, 6-4 win at the first singles spot, and Ginny Trevisan earned a 6-0,6-0 sweep at the third singles spot to give the Spartans two points on the day. At the second spot, Madelyn Nonni battled, falling 1-6 in the first set before taking the second set 6-4 to force a deciding third set, but ultimately fell 0-6. Sophia Hussak fell 6-3, 6-2 at the fourth spot, while Devon Kibbey fell 6-2, 6-1 at the fifth spot. In the final match of the day, Olivia Rutkowski battled at the sixth spot, falling 4-6 in set one, but taking set two 6-4. The third and final set was called due to weather, resulting in no point for either team and an unfinished match.

Castleton was swept in doubles play with Forte and Nonni falling at the top spot 6-4. At the second spot, Trevisan and Hussak fell 6-2, while Kibbey and Rutkowski dropped 6-2 at the third spot.

The team welcomes Salem State to Vermont on Saturday, October 18, for the final regular-season match of the year, set to start at 1 p.m.
