Ezzo Sets Program Saves Record for Women's Soccer

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Emma Ezzo of the Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team broke the women's soccer program record for career saves Tuesday evening, as the Spartans fell 4-0 to Skidmore.

The Basics:

How it Happened:
  • The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 12th minute as Castleton worked to get back on its feet.
  • Skidmore continued to hound the Spartans' back line and Ezzo, as Ezzo made the record-tying save in the 20th minute.
  • Her search for the new record number began in the 23rd minute when she recorded the 366th save of her career, surpassing the previous record holder and climbing to the top of the record book, finishing the first half with four saves.
  • Skidmore extended their lead further in the 45th minute, just as the second half started, and found their final goal in the 50th minute.
  • Castleton's back line forced the Thoroughbreds to shoot off target for the remainder of the game, as Ezzo made three saves to finish out the second half.
By the Numbers:
  • Ezzo finished the day with seven saves, giving her 371 in her career to become the new all-time program record holder for career saves.
